"In 1903, José Crescencio Martínez Lacuesta opened the first Madrid Branch of Bodegas Martínez Lacuesta at number 6 Calle Peralta. Little did he know that this street would disappear with the construction of the Gran Vía. The business was transferred to number 18 Calle Carmen. The founder’s long illness and death saw his brother Emiliano first running the branch and then taking over the Madrid end of the business in 1924. With the pedestrianisation of the Puerta del Sol, the business again moved to number 6 Calle Andrés Borrego, where, from 1962 onwards, it was managed by Emiliano’s son, Gonzalo Martínez Lacuesta. Due to its growth, José Luis González, Emiliano’s son-in-law, joined him as manager in 1975. In 1996, Emiliano’s grandchildren moved the Madrid Branch out to the modern industrial estate of San Sebastián de los Reyes. Bodegas Martínez Lacuesta can boast well over a century’s uninterrupted presence in the Spanish capital."
